The MAS is composed of coursework and a dissertation. It is organized in three parts:
- A core curriculum (equivalent to Diploma of Advanced Studies) of 3 months full day coursework on the concepts and fundamental issues of humanitarianism (September-December) completed by an individual paper (January).
- Two elective courses (equivalent to Certificates of Advanced Studies) on a specific subject of the student's choice.
- Research courses and a dissertation on a topic of humanitarian action chosen by the participant
The modular set-up allows for students to complete the MAS in 1 to 3 years.
